Sherborne’s International Film Festival (SHIFF) is organised by the Rotary Club of Sherborne Castles. The main aim is to provide service to the community either directly or by raising money for charity.
In Sherborne, there are two Clubs, Sherborne Rotary Club and the Rotary Club of Sherborne Castles, with a combined membership of about 70. The clubs work together sponsoring and supporting local activities, most notably the annual Historic Vehicle Rally and the Firework Party at Sherborne Castle.
In recent years, the Sherborne Castles Club has supported three key community projects: Tinneys Youth Centre; the RendezVous Centre and the Four Leaf Clover Club raising around £25,000 for these organisations. Examples of events which combine community activities with fund-raising include public concerts; the opening of private gardens and the International Film Festival.
Competitions are organised for young people on public speaking, cookery and photography.
Spouses of Rotarians have their own club, Inner Wheel, and they work with the Rotary Clubs, as well as supporting good causes from their own activities.
