One of France’s most talented young actors, Romain Duris is better known for his serious side such as the Paris hoodlum that he played in “The Beat My Heart Skipped”, shown at this festival in 2009. “Heartbreaker” sees Duris in a totally new role, that of the romantic comedy lead, and he performs it to perfection.
Duris plays the part of ‘the other man’ except that he is hired to bring to an end to what are considered to be unsuitable romances. He has an entire repertoire of smooth tricks to divert the attention of the young ladies in question away from their seemingly inappropriate partners and he always clinches his success with a set routine that sets him free to move on to his next target.
Yes, the story does follow a predictable path but Duris is a lovable, watchable rascal who finally lets his emotions get the better of him. Playing opposite him is Vanessa Paradis who is a beautiful foil to Duris’ witty character. Set in the glamorous setting of Monte Carlo, this is a fun and entertaining film that will definitely let you leave feeling good.
